Creamy, cheesy, spicy, and served in a crusty sourdough bowl — the ultimate party starter or comfort food.
Imagine warm, melty jalapeño popper dip loaded into a hollowed-out sourdough loaf, baked until golden, and served with the bread chunks for dipping. This is everything you love about jalapeño poppers — but in dip form, in bread form, and perfect for sharing.
🧾 Ingredients
1 large sourdough round (about 8” diameter)
8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
1/2 cup cooked bacon, crumbled
3–4 jalapeños, diced (seeds removed for less heat)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp chopped green onions (optional)
Extra cheese and bacon for topping
🍞 Instructions
Preheat Oven:
Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Prep the Bread Bowl:
Slice the top off the sourdough loaf and scoop out the insides, leaving about 1” thick walls. Cut the removed bread into cubes for dipping.
Make the Filling:
In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, sour cream, cheddar, mozzarella, bacon, jalapeños, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until smooth and well combined.
Fill the Bowl:
Spoon the mixture into the sourdough bread bowl. Sprinkle extra cheese and bacon on top.
Bake:
Place the bread bowl on a baking tray. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until hot and bubbly. In the last 10 minutes, add the bread cubes to the tray to toast them lightly.
Serve Hot:
Garnish with green onions and serve with toasted bread chunks or chips.
🔥 Tips & Add-ons:
For extra heat, leave the seeds in one of the jalapeños or add a pinch of cayenne.
Add chopped roasted red pepper for sweetness.
Want it vegetarian? Just skip the bacon — it’s still rich and flavorful.
❓ FAQ
Can I use a different bread?
Yes! A French boule or any rustic round loaf works. Just make sure it’s sturdy enough to hold the filling.
Can I make this ahead?
You can prep the filling and hollow the bread up to a day in advance. Assemble and bake just before serving.
How spicy is this?
It’s mild to medium by default. For less heat, use fewer jalapeños or remove all the seeds. For more heat, keep the seeds or add hot sauce.
Can I use jarred jalapeños?
You can! It adds a slightly tangier flavor. Use 1/4 cup of chopped jarred jalapeños in place of fresh.
